Just in...Compost Tumbler!

We received our new composter, the Lifetime 60058 Compost Tumbler (80 Gallon) in black.

I have to tell you I never thought in a million years I'd buy a composter, much less be enthusiastic about using it!  Although it looks like a pain to assemble since you have to put the thing together yourself (it's flat-packed), we hope it'll be worth it in the end.

We had a few requirements:

 1) Contained compost - We did not want an open pile in our yard

2) Easy to access - This tumbler had a door that swings open (some others have doors that slide open which we thought would be harder to use and might get less easy to slide as things got caught in the grooves).  The door also seemed to be a decent size so that we could reach in and pull compost out without too much maneuvering.

3) Ability to turn the compost - We briefly considered buying a barrel to do the composting but the thought of having to kick a full barrel on its side and roll it around or trying to mix the compost while the barrel was upright seemed like it would be hard for me. This tumbler fit the bill, it seems easy enough to mix the compost by spinning the barrel and I get to feel like a glamorous game show assistant at the same time!

Based on the above's good reviews on Amazon we took the dive and bought it.  I'll let you know how it turns out once we get it assembled.
